“We’re in the middle of planning and building our dream home in Taupō. An exciting exercise tempered with common problems for anyone in this situation – while we knew what we wanted from the house, comprehending what could be done was completely different.  

In our heads over a period of time we’d thought about our many needs, wants and design cues , some even contradictory.  We’d played with a number of floorplan options and developed a sense of what we thought could work.  We kicked off this project a little “backwards”  by finding a builder first and it was one of the best things we did!  We found the builder we wanted to use and  they connected us to  Stephen and were soon able to arrange a meeting onsite. 

What a productive couple of hours! Stephen was almost immediately able to understand our needs and wants, but also our very hazily described “dream home”. He translated our verbalised vision and the first concept drawings that eventuated were stunning.  Stephen had incorporated and integrated all our requirements into a design that had the look and feel we wanted, but also challenged our thinking on how to maximize the use of a challenging site.

The testament to this is that from this initial design to our locked down floor plan is we only made a handful of essentially detail changes.  The integration of external cladding and roofing materials, window options, room size, flow and encompassing the views couldn’t be faulted.

As the project progresses, Stephen’s obvious rapport with other professionals across the wider construction field has been to our advantage. So far these have included planning consultants for resource consents or engineers for structural needs, who have all been outstanding to deal with too.

We see Stephen as integral and incredibly important to the success our build will become.”
